The Northern Colonies was part of the Triangle Trade with Africa and West Indies. They were also part of the King Philip's War. And since New England was making to much money on trading, England passed the Navigation Acts.

For the Triangular Trade New England sent rum and iron to Africa and fish and timber to West Indies. Slaves were sent from Africa to West Indies. And Finally from West Indies molasses and slaves were sent to New England.
